At times we are faced with patients who seem disconnected from us and from other people, and from themselves and within themselves. Or are they really so unconnected? Do we address this condition via psychoanalytic psychotherapy by sometimes forcing connections or reading in connections where there are none? Can we find connections or even build connections under these conditions? Our four speakers will ask if they can we stay true to their psychoanalytic roots and still meet the patient where he is, or for that matter, where he is not?


Louise Allnutt
Louise Allnutt is a child and adolescent psychotherapist at the Tavistock. For the last 10 years she worked in a specialist CAMHS for children and young people with additional special needs and has more recently joined a team focussed on assessing trauma in children and their parents. Dr Anne Alvarez
Dr Anne Alvarez, PhD, M.A.C.P is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist (and retired Co-Convener of the Autism Service, Child and Family Dep't. Graham Shulman
Graham Shulman is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist and Head of Child Psychotherapy in CAMHS NHS Lanarkshire. He was previously a member of the Tavistock Clinic Autism Team and Autism Workshop, where he designed and taught a Work Discussion Group for Professionals Working in the Field of Autism. He is a contributor to The Many Faces of Asperger's Syndrome (Karnac, 2004), and is joint editor and contributor to The Emotional Experience of Adoption: A Psychoanalytic Perspective (Routledge, 2008) and The Non-Linear Mind: Psychoanalysis of Complexity in Psychic Life (Karnac, 2016)...
