James Barrett

James Barrett is a Jungian Analytical Psychotherapist with additional trainings in Advanced Integrative Therapy and Psychoanalytic Energy Therapy. He is an experienced couples therapist and am currently enjoying further training in Imago Couple Therapy.

Using Energy Therapy his impression is that he has been able to help clients to unpack and clear the disabling effects of massive traumas and together achieve more than with more conventional talk therapy. Energy therapy can also be used to treat the psychological and spiritual origins of physiological symptoms with great effect.

In common with all colleagues in the psychoanalytic field his learning and development as a practitioner is driven by his personal needs for understanding, healing and growth. This combines with reading, consultation with colleagues and learning from others in the constant flow of this developing field. I also teach and supervise.

He co-founded, with Shirley Wheeley, the training in Jungian Analytical Psychotherapy at the West Midlands Institute for Psychotherapy in 1991. He has chaired the West Midlands Institute for Psychotherapy, the Confederation for Analytical Psychology, and the Training Standards and Membership Committee of the Council for Psychoanalysis and Jungian Analysis at the UKCP.
