Working with the Dreaming Mind
Perspectives from contemporary psychotherapeutic practice

With Dr Giuseppe Civitarese, Dr Angela Cotter and Laurie Slade

Saturday 30 January 2016

To work with dreams, symbols, and imagination in psychotherapy is to engage the dreaming mind - a vital and paradoxical ingredient in any creative process, rooted in visceral functioning, with a capacity to transform sensory experience into conscious thought, and a potential for transcendent insight. No single perspective or modality in psychotherapy can define the essence of the dreaming mind or how best to work with it but, by considering a variety of approaches and through shared reflection, we can get a clearer sense of how we experience this dimension and where we choose to locate ourselves in relation to this province of the mind. Examining how dreams, symbols and imagination enter both the psychotherapeutic field and interpretive narrative, this promises to be a fascinating theoretical and experiential event.
