Dr Beverley Costa
Dr Beverley Costa is a psychotherapist and supervisor registered with the BPA and UKCP. Her doctorate was in Psychotherapy by Public Works. In 2000 she founded Mothertongue, an organisation that provides culturally and linguistically sensitive professional counselling to the BME community. It has attracted funding from the Primary Care Trust, Berkshire Healthcare Trust, the Community Fund, the Big Lottery, Lloyds TSB and the European Social Fund amongst others. Mothertongue won the National Charity Award in the category of Social Care, Health and Religion. In 2008 it was recognised by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy for Excellence in Practice. It also won a regional NHS Award in the category of Improving Health and Reducing Inequalities. In 2009 Mothertongue was awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service and in 2010 was recognised by the Third Sector Awards as one of Britain’s Most Admired Charities. Since 2008 she has lectured on cross-cultural clinical issues at the University of Reading, Southampton, Portsmouth, Brunel University, Westminster IAPT, Harrow, Colchester and Norwich Mind.
