Dr Elaine Hunter

Dr Elaine Hunter is a Principal Clinical Psychologist with the Psychological Interventions Clinic for Outpatients with Psychosis (PICuP), where she sees clients for therapy and supervises other clinicians within South London and Maudsley Trust, as well as in other NHS Trusts around London.

She is the training lead for the service, coordinating and delivering some of the numerous national and international trainings and workshops that PICuP provide to other clinical services and for mental health professionals. She co-ordinates the placements of international clinicians to the PICuP clinic.

Clinically, Dr Hunter has an interest and expertise in working with dissociation, and childhood trauma within psychosis. She provides trauma-focused CBT and is EMDR level 1 trained.

Dr Hunter is a Visiting Lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry, teaching and supervising clinical trainees on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. She is also the Joint Programme Lead for the Postgraduate Diploma in CBT for Psychosis (CBTp) at the Institute of Psychiatry, teaching and supervising clinicians undertaking this programme. She is currently developing a distance learning version of this programme. She is a Health Professional Council registered Clinical Psychologist as well as a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the Division of Clinical Psychology. She is a member of the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).

Dr. Hunter gives regular presentations at national and international conferences to present her research work. From 2009 -2011 she was a Research Trial Therapist on a study of CBT for Command Hallucinations. In 2012 Dr. Hunter spent 7 months teaching CBT to Public Health Clinicians in Uganda and Zimbabwe, as part of a career break.
