Dr Mario Marrone

Dr Mario Marrone qualified as a medical doctor at the University of Rosario, Argentina (1973) and holds a Diploma in Psychiatry (Medical College of the Santa Fe Province, Argentina, 1976). He trained in group analysis at the Institute of Group Analysis (London) and in psychoanalysis at the Institute of Psycho-Analysis (London).

He has had clinical supervision with a number of senior psychoanalysts, including Martin Miller, Patrick Casement, Pearl King and John Bowlby. He studied attachment theory with John Bowlby over a period of ten years. He was a full time hospital psychiatrist and psychotherapist in the National Health Service (United Kingdom) between 1977 and 1991, where he gained extensive experience in the fields of neurosis, psychosis, personality disorders, puerperal depression, family crisis intervention, fostering and adoption, transcultural psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, trauma, assessment of suitability for psychotherapy and psychotherapy with severely disturbed young patients.

He is a founder member and Chairman of the International Attachment Network and co-founder of the Journal Attachment and Human Development. He has published many papers and book including Attachment and Interaction (Jessica Kingsley, first edition 1998, second edition 2014), Attachment Theory and the Psychoanalytic Process (with Mauricio Cortina, Whurr, 2003) and Attachment and Intersubjectivity (co-authored with Nicola Diamond, Whurr, 2003). He has also published books in Italian and Spanish and lectured internationally.
