Teresa Belton
Teresa Belton studied art history at the University of East Anglia in the early 1970’s, during which time she was one of the founder members of the UEA Eco Action Group. She has had an active interest in environmental matters ever since. Following a diploma in arts administration she worked at the Everyman Theatre in Liverpool, organising exhibitions, and poetry and craft events in the theatre foyer.
While her children were young in the 1980s, Teresa was active with others in setting up and developing a small charity, Play for Life, whose aim was to stimulate fresh public thinking about children’s real play needs, the free-time activities and experiences which would actively support the healthy social, cultural, emotional and spiritual development of children of all ages.
This led, in the 1990s, to doctoral research into the influence of television and videos on children’s story-making. Teresa continued to work part-time as a researcher in the School of Education and Lifelong Learning at UEA until recently. This gave her time and opportunity to research and write her book Happier People Healthier Planet: How putting wellbeing first would help sustain life on Earth.
