Maya Jacobs-Wallfisch

Maya Jacobs-Wallfisch

Maya Jacobs-Wallfisch is a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist who trained with the Arbours Association, with 25 years of clinical experience in the public and voluntary sectors and is now in private practice.

Maya’s interest in trauma and the issues arising from trans-generational trauma have their origins in her experience of being a second generation Holocaust survivor. In 1943 her mother was deported to Auschwitz.

She was saved from death by her cello playing, which earned her a place in the legendary Women’s Orchestra of Birkenau. Following her liberation she did not talk about the past.

Living in the shadow of this secretive heritage, Maya found that her sense of personal identity and an experience of ‘unbelonging’ have been deeply challenging. These experiences inform her work as a psychotherapist in which she seeks to help her patients address their own subjective experiences of difference, exclusion and, persecution.
