Howard Evans
Howard Evans has been working as a body oriented therapist since 1992. His training started in the late 1970s, when he studied Traditional Chinese Medicine with J R Worsley. He spent the eighties working as an information systems analyst while immersing himself in G I Gurdjieff’s ‘fourth way’ work, and studying physical theatre with Jack Waltzer, David Bennett, the Actors Institute and the Roy Hart Theatre; an inner journey that revealed his vocation in therapeutic bodywork.
In the 1990s, inspired by direct work with Stanley Keleman, Howard trained as a body oriented psychotherapist, first at the Minster Centre in London, and then at the Karuna Institute in Devon, working for a time in an integrative practice under the supervision of the Consultant Psychiatrist, Dr Brenda Davies.
While at Karuna Institute Howard met Franklyn Sills and trained with him in Craniosacral Therapy. In 1997 he completed a master’s degree in Therapeutic Bodywork at the University of Westminster. His master’s dissertation discussed the use of Craniosacral techniques to listen to the story of the client’s dreaming body from a place of silence.
Howard lectured at the University of Westminster between 1997 and 2006. He continues to teach bodywork courses at schools in Catalunya, Croatia and the UK.
Howard’s academic writing includes: A Myofascial Approach to Thai Massage (Elsevier 2009) and a chapter in the 3rd edition of Modern Neuromuscular Techniques (Elsevier 2010) edited by Leon Chaitow.
He also writes fiction: The Story of Rose (CreateSpace 2017); STILL (Double Dorje 2019); LOVE SEX DEATH (Double Dorje 2020).
Howard has worked with CONFER as a speaker at “The Power of Touch” conference (November 2007) and “The Practitioner’s Body” conference (April 2008).
