Nailah Husbands
Nailah Husbands: British born to Caribbean parents, Nailah spent the early years of her childhood in Trinidad with her grandmother, later re-joining her mother and extended family in the UK. Nailah has always been surrounded by food. Her mother, a West Indian caterer, regularly celebrated with friends by preparing traditional dishes. Food in this setting was symbolic of home – it sutured friends together to talk, laugh and reminisce. Food played a role in shaping Nailahs understanding of communication. As a teenager, she was expected to host in the same way her mother did, which meant serving, sitting and talking with family and friends who visited. Although Nailah’s career started in Law, this early life encounter shaped her interest in working with people in a broader sense. Initially volunteering as an advocate for the elderly, she later trained with Relate. Nailah now works with Relate Family therapy and runs her own private practice. In addition, she is a published songwriter, co-founder of a group therapy workshop called the Love Brunch that focuses on fostering better partnership through therapeutic work and a director for a CIC organisation that supports families experiencing parental alienation.
