Audrey Kavka, MD
Psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, Audrey Kavka, is a faculty member and Supervising Analyst of the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis. She is the past Chair of the International Psychoanalytic Association (IPA) Psychoanalytic Perspectives on the Ageing of Patients and Psychoanalysts’ Committee (20142018) and continues to collaborate with colleagues from Europe and South America on topics of aging. She chaired the American Psychoanalytic Association’s Committee on Colleague Assistance from 2010-2020 and authored the Colleague Assistance Casebook (APsaA 2017), the first publication to specifically address the highly sensitive and challenging problem of assisting psychoanalyst colleagues who may be functionally compromised due to somatic and/or emotional illness. She is encouraged by a new, fledgling, openness to previously neglected, even taboo, issues of colleague assistance, retirement, professional wills, wellness and aging within psychoanalytic communities.
