Kate White
Kate White was until recently Editor of the journal, Attachment: New Directions in Psychotherapy and Relational Psychoanalysis and is currently Series Editor of The John Bowlby Memorial Conference Monographs. She is also a training therapist, supervisor and teacher at The Bowlby Centre where she trained.
Prior to training as a psychotherapist Kate was a senior lecturer at The South Bank University, London, in the Department of Nursing and Community Health Studies. In addition to working as an individual psychotherapist, Kate writes about psychotherapy education and runs workshops on the themes of attachment and trauma in clinical practice. Informed by her experience of growing up in South Africa, she has long been interested in the impact of race and culture on theory and on clinical practice.
She has edited three books, Unmasking Race, Culture and Attachment in the Psychoanalytic Space; What do we see? What do we think? What do we feel? (Karnac, 2006) and Touch: Attachment and the Body. (Karnac, 2004), Talking Bodies: How do we integrate working with the body in psychotherapy from an attachment and relational perspective? (Karnac, 2013) and co-edited a three others. Sexuality and Attachment in Clinical Practice, (Karnac, 2007), a second with Sarah Benamer Trauma and Attachment (Karnac 2008) and a third with Judy Yellin, Shattered States, Disorganised Attachment and its Repair, Karnac (2012).
Her forthcoming book, co-edited with Angela Cotter and Hazel Leventhal, reflects her current and developing thinking in the applications of insights from attachment theory to the world of dementia, memory loss and ageing to which she brings both personal and professional experience.
