A Diploma in Practising Energy Psychotherapy
A course for qualified counsellors, psychotherapists, clinical/counselling psychologists and psychiatrists
Saturday 25 January – Saturday 21 November 2020 – Sold out
DETAILS AND DATES OF THE 21 – 22 COURSE WILL BE UPLOADED SHORTLY
This one-year programme invites an open approach to integrating the myriad of exciting contemporary energy psychologies into psychotherapy. New understandings about the impact of trauma on the body, including advances in neurobiology, support working with the mind-body connection alongside talking psychotherapy. The gentle methods of Energy Psychotherapy facilitate deep healing by helping to clear the emotional and energetic residues of trauma at a deep bodily level, including patterns of transgenerational, attachment, non-verbal and complex trauma.
Read More...The collaborative approach of energy psychotherapy facilitates the client’s own healing process and enables clients to use empowering self-help energy methods to cope with triggering and to regulate their affect. Preliminary evidence for the clinical effectiveness of one of these approaches (EFT) has been mentioned in the updated NICE guidance for PTSD.
Practising Energy Psychotherapy offers a generic foundation in the principles of working with the body’s subtle energy systems, providing a platform from which course participants can build as they learn. It is a clinical skills-based training which includes experiential learning in pairs, enabling practitioners to develop confidence in integrating energy psychology tools into relational therapy. The learning is incremental, and participants will have an opportunity to revisit and practise their clinical skills throughout.

THE COURSE PHILOSOPHY
The origins of energy in healing – combining the old and the new
Central to the ethos of our approach is the convergence of many different streams of ideas and practical applications for working with energy. This course aims to present underlying principles creating a solid foundation for practising energy psychotherapy. The healing traditions of working with subtle energies – meridians and chakras – such as in China, India and other ancient cultures are at least 5000 old. From these beginnings we see the flowering of numerous energy disciplines in our contemporary world, including Acupuncture, Qi-Gong, Reiki, Thought Field Therapy, Emotional Freedom Techniques, Tapas Acupressure Technique, Advanced Integrative Therapy, Ask and Receive, Psychoanalytic Energy Psychotherapy, and many others.
Integrating the body and energy fields into psychotherapy
This new course aims to teach clinicians to effectively and safely integrate energy psychology into their therapy practice. By including the body and energy field it is possible to work more easily with deep rooted issues, including developmental and preverbal trauma that “talking therapies” alone struggle to reach. These methods are applicable in most aspects of therapeutic work facilitating significant breakthroughs in therapeutic impasse and blocks to development. They also provide valuable self-help resources for clients, enabling them to stabilise and regulate affect. Working in this way can be gentle and transformative.
Growing evidence base
The NHS NICE guidance discussion documents on PTSD have acknowledged the effectiveness of some of these energy approaches in working with trauma (particularly EFT) and are encouraging more research.
Making Energy Psychotherapy methods more widely accessible
The course designers and facilitators of this newly constituted course share a desire to make Energy Psychotherapy more widely and freely accessible. By providing a solid generic overview and foundation in the essential theories, principles and clinical skills for working with energy and helping practitioners gain confidence in using Energy Psychotherapy, our wish is that this type of work becomes a mainstream aspect of therapeutic practice.
The length and depth of this one-year course provides a supportive learning environment so practitioners can incrementally learn the tools of Energy Psychology and deepen their confidence in integrating these into their existing psychotherapeutic practice.
To enhance this, those who undertake the Certificate or Diploma levels have the advantage of supervision in Energy Psychotherapy throughout the course.
Energy psychotherapy – a depth approach
This course draws on the rich traditions of different psychotherapies including Jungian, Psychoanalytic, Attachment based, Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), Person Centred, Gestalt, Transpersonal and other perspectives. In addition, Energy Psychotherapy works with people on many different levels including physical, cognitive, emotional and spiritual, and with conscious and unconscious aspects. It also engages different parts of the self, including the continuum of dissociative experiences, ‘parts’, ‘alters’ and ‘archetypes’ that are often associated with complex trauma, PTSD, and attachment trauma. The course combines an energy perspective with depth psychology to work with these complexities and also brings the possibility of clearing trauma in-utero, birth and developmental, as well as trans-generational trauma and energies and blockages held in a person’s energy field from a variety of sources.
Course Values – heart-centred, combining open-mindedness, curiosity, and playfulness with sound assessment skills and solid grounding.
Central to the course is a heart-centred approach which values the qualities of openness, curiosity and playfulness. Participants can experience the freedom, wonder and surprises which energy therapy can bring. The course combines this with a depth approach, where assessment of appropriate levels of therapeutic intervention and pacing of the work balances and provides solid grounding.
Experiential skills-based learning
Practising Energy Psychotherapy is a skills-based training, where clinical discussion, and for those doing the Certificate and Diploma levels, supervision, and self-directed study are all incorporated into the experiential learning. The series of one day training events cumulatively builds on and consolidates learning which facilitates a thorough grounding in Energy Psychotherapy. Participants will work with their own personal material during training days in a confidential environment, so that the learning of clinical skills is fully embodied.
Respecting the uniqueness of each person’s own healing process and following the flow of energy
A characteristic aspect of working with energy is to “follow the flow” of each person’s unique healing process. Guided by free association of the mind and body and helped by “energy testing” (kinesiology), we respect that the client’s energy system knows best, both for what needs healing, and for the pacing of the work. The philosophy of the course includes being open to unknown or “higher” dimensions and sources of healing accessible in the energy realm beyond the conscious mind.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
We intend that by the end of this year-long course, participants will have acquired:
- An understanding of the history, origins and development of energy psychology techniques (including research) and their integration into psychotherapy.
- An understanding of and ability to apply psychotherapeutically the subtle energy systems of meridians, chakras and other components of the human energy system.
- Competence in carrying out an energy treatment – using the skills of energy testing, correcting imbalances and energy blockages, and identifying the core issue for therapeutic work, and applying energy methods to that focus.
- Skills in working with the synergy of language, energy and intention.
- For Certificate and Diploma levels, deeper integration through supervision: demonstrating that in therapeutic practice the therapist has (for example) an understanding of the deeper layers and intervention levels for working with trauma, the origins of trauma and “treatment planning” .
IN PERSON PROGRAMME
This applied to all levels of participation: CPD, Certificate and Diploma
The timetable below is provisional. It outlines the material to be covered, but the scheduling may be adapted to suit the evolving learning needs of the participants.
Saturday 25 January 2020
THEORY: This day provides an introduction and history, and overview of energy psychotherapy. Working in a heart-centred state of ‘presence’, using kinesiology, regulating the body’s energy system, energetic boundaries and reversals will all be considered.
PRACTICE: We will demonstrate and begin to teach energy testing (muscle testing/kinesiology). Participants will be introduced to methods for correcting energetic disorganisation and dehydration, which are useful resources for clients when they are triggered. Participants will be taught methods for clearing energetic reversals (blockages to treatment). We will practice energy testing and an energetic boundaries protocol.
Sunday 26 January 2020
THEORY: The day begins with a brief overview of ‘subtle energies’ including meridians, energy centres (chakras) and thought-fields. Participants will be introduced to the meridian-based method of EFT (Emotion Freedom Technique).
PRACTICE: Participants will learn through demonstration and practise about the meridian points and will begin to learn ‘tapping whilst talking’ and a basic acupoint tapping sequence for use both in sessions and as a self-help tool.
Sunday 1 March 2020
THEORY: On this day, the significance in energy psychotherapy of subtle energies, language and intention will be considered and the use of thought-fields and “treatment phrases”.
PRACTICE: We will review and practice “clearing” issues energetically using acupoint “tapping whilst talking” and introduce some basic self-care techniques for managing energy.
Sunday 5 April 2020
THEORY: The course will overview research in energy psychology. The universality of the use of energy centres (chakras) in healing methods will also be reviewed as they relate to contemporary insights into neurobiology.
PRACTICE: Participants will practise simple phrase writing for use in energy therapy treatments and learn about self-muscle testing. Participants will also learn how to clear trauma in their own body, using the chakra system.
Saturday 16 May 2020 – Webinar
THEORY: We will consider the connection between psyche, soma, and the ways trauma is held in the body. “Unpacking” trauma and its layers, including the phenomenon of “repetition compulsion” highlights the need for thorough history taking and assessment so that we can practise safely. Trans-generational roots of trauma and treating pre-verbal trauma in-utero will also be considered, and the importance of including parts in the work.
PRACTICE: Participants will practise energy testing to guide their paired work and learn how to compose treatment phrases and treat trauma, (including the patterns of “repetition compulsions”) using meridians and chakras.
Saturday 20 June 2020 – Webinar
THEORY: A feature of energy psychotherapy is that we can work with positive intentions and affirm wellness to underpin the healing. The role of thought processes and schemas and how we can “re-programme” our conscious and unconscious default patterns energetically will be explained. We will also explore ethical issues and dilemmas in practising energy psychotherapy.
PRACTICE: Participants will learn to establish positive healing intention and work energetically with conscious and unconscious thought ‘”programmes” using meridians and chakras.
Saturday 25 July Online Energy Psychotherapy Practise Day
REVIEW AND PRACTICE: A half day online event where course participants will be able to review and practise integrating all that they have learned on the course so far
Saturday 5 September – Webinar
THEORY: Due to Covid 19, the previously advertised weekend on Psychoanalytic Energy Psychotherapy component (PEP, created by Phil Mollon) will be rescheduled in 2021 since it requires in- person teaching. The webinar on 5th September will explore working with attachment and pre-verbal trauma using a range of energy therapy methods and participants will also begin to integrate work with ‘parts’.
PRACTICE: Participants will practise clearing attachment and pre-verbal trauma and learn about integrating parts by using ‘healing circles’
Saturday 10 October – Webinar
THEORY: Energy work is very helpful in strengthening the ego when working with complex trauma, PTSD, dissociation, and “deeper reversals”. Working with parts and fragments can help achieve stabilisation and integration and various energy practices facilitate the process of grounding and embodiment.
PRACTICE: Course participants will practise methods for working safely with severe and complex trauma (including attachment and relational trauma). These will include methods such as the EFT tearless trauma protocol and working with “healing circles” to avoid re-triggering and re-traumatising the client. We will continue to develop energy testing skills to guide and pace the work safely.
Saturday 21 November – Webinar
THEORY: The final day of the course looks at attachment, development trauma and working with early non-verbal trauma. It also provides opportunities to review, learn about treatment planning and working on Skype/Zoom. There will be revision, trouble shooting and space to consider whatever most suits the training cohort’s learning needs.
PRACTICE: Participants will deepen their learning, practising and stabilising confidence in the variety of energy methods and protocols which have been taught on the course.
